LIGHT A HEART BECOMES A HEART FILLED REALITY
June 1, 2006 Mill Valley Candleworks owners Michael & Marni Salit received Non-profit status for Light A Heart, an organization founded by Michael & Marni Salit to raise money for children and young adults with autism and epilepsy We have helped other organizations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in our community and around the world. We can now officially raise money to help families who work around the clock to provide for their family members the highest quality of life. We hope to inspire everyone who lights one of our richly scented candles for any reason or occasion to open their heart and offer their hands to help someone less fortunate than they are." The mission of Light a Heart is to provide families with the resources to be able to have trained, full time one-to-one care to maximize the quality of life.
Project Light a Heart was the impetus for Mill Valley Candleworks. Our vision is to use our handmade heart candles to illuminate the hearts of people everywhere. The lighting of a quality scented candle for any reason at any time changes the environment. "You can't be angry when you light a candle, the more candles that are lit, the more peace there will be in the world". We offer our heart candles to be used by organizations everywhere to raise money for their school, group or non-profit organization.
The "Illuminated Heart" candle sells for $15.00. From each hand-crafted candle sold $6.50 goes to the organization selling them. From the proceeds $1.00 is donated by Mill Valley Candleworks to Light A Heart Inc. Of the remaining $7.50 a portion of the money is used to make another Illuminated Heart candle and a handmade ornament to perpetuate the "Heart of Giving".
Mill Valley Candleworks currently has two retail locations, a web site, and a growing wholesale business. "We are dedicated to raising money to help this specific and growing population of people being affected by autism" We are donating 100% of the profits generated by the ornaments sold through all of our direct sales channels. We are also very proud to announce that we will donate five percent (5%) of all retail sales and two and one-half percent (2.5%) of all wholesale orders to Light A Heart.
